A note from Misty

Dear Reader,

So, how has your August adventure been going?

When I chose Adventure as this month's frequency, its was because I was noticing how easily we lose that sense of wonder as adults. We get very good at being responsible, productive, practical humans... and often forget how to simply be curious and observe the world with wonder and awe.

When I first moved to Tennessee, I was in complete awe of the land. Every weekend we were going on hikes, chasing waterfalls and views. Sometimes we would go for a drive with no destination in mind, just going out to see what we would see. Those first couple of years here are probably some of the most adventurous years of the last decade for me, and it didn't involve extravagant vacations or spending a ton of money to go do something new.

It was adventurous because each time I left the house I was allowing my sense of wonder and curiosity to guide me. I was exploring and enjoying the life I was living, truly awake to the wonder and joy that surrounded me. And when we can view our lives through that lens, every day becomes an adventure!

Practice With Me

I created a new Yoga Nidra for this month's frequency. This practice is an invitation to settle into your body and breathe and remember the wonder of simply being alive.

Towards the end of the practice we will spend some time letting our August Sankalpa rest in the heart: I live a life full of adventure, wonder and joy because I AM adventure, wonder and joy.

Your Adventure Reflection

If you haven't done any adventuring yet, there's still time. But instead of asking yourself what should I do, try asking what am I curious about? Maybe there is a class you want to take online, a workshop you have been meaning to check out, a hike that you have been wanting to go on. This adventure does not need to be productive, practical or useful! What sounds fun to you? Do that!

Once you have gone on your adventure I invite you to reflect back: What did you notice about yourself when you stepped outside your usual routine? I often notice when I am being adventurous (and not productive) that I feel like a kid again, relaxed, joyful and free! What did this experience remind you about wonder and adventure? Every time I adventure I think to myself, why the hell don't I do this more often. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Offerings

Want to step outside your usual routine and go on an adventure with your community?

One of the things I love about retreats is that they give us permission to do exactly this. We step away from our responsibilities for a few hours, connect with other people, tend to ourselves, and experience something outside the rhythm of our everyday lives.

Next month I am hosting a women's retreat that invites us to mindfully transition from summer to fall. At this retreat you will get to meet and connect with other women in your community. We will practice yoga, eat nourishing food, create a meaningful craft, and practice deep rest with Yoga Nidra.

If you've been curious about joining me for a retreat, I'd love to have you there. There is a first time for everything and you are welcome to join us, even if you have never done yoga before. ๐Ÿค— (9 spots remain)

Adventure doesn't always require going somewhere far away. Sometimes it simply asks us to follow the little spark of curiosity that's already there.

Until next month,

Tune out the noise. Tune back into yourself.

Twice a month, I'll send you a note inspired by a new monthly Frequency, with practices, reflections, and reminders to help you slow down, listen inward, and live a life that feels like you. Each month's Frequency is an invitation to remember an aspect of ourselves we may have forgotten, like trust, adventure, presence, pleasure, or rest, and bring a little more of it into our everyday lives.
