The Art of Effort and Ease: Finding Balance in the Seasons

Hi love,

Notice how nature never rushes? The trees don’t force their leaves to bud before spring. The flowers don’t bloom in the middle of winter. Everything in nature moves in rhythm, honoring a perfect balance between times of growth and times of rest.

For most of my life I thought I had to be in constant go mode, always working, always producing, always striving. Society told me that if I wasn't being productive I was being lazy..and lazy was unacceptable. Unfortunately, living a life that is constantly go, go, go is a recipe for disaster that's called burnout. And that is exactly how I felt by the time I reached 37. Tired, fatigued, worn down to the bone.

It was around this time that I was introduced to seasonal living, and shortly after Yoga Nidra, two practices that ended up changing my life. The more I paid attention to the natural world, the more I realized: we are meant to live seasonally, too.

🌸 Nature as a Guide

Each season carries its own sacred energy:

  • Spring invites us to plant seeds and dream new dreams.
  • Summer calls us into fullness and vibrancy.
  • Autumn reminds us that it’s time to release and let go.
  • Winter cocoons us into deep rest and reflection.

When we align with these natural rhythms, life naturally feels softer, steadier, more sustainable. It’s this dance of doing and being, knowing when to grow and when to simply be, that truly sustains us.

🌿 The Balance of Effort and Ease

In our modern world, it’s easy to believe that we must always be achieving to be worthy. But nature reminds us that rest is not lazy, it’s necessary. Without periods of stillness, there can be no growth. Without letting go, there is no space for new beginnings.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, burnt out or just plain tired, maybe it’s not a lack of willpower. Maybe it’s a lack of honoring your own natural seasons. Maybe it's a lack of balance between effort and ease.

This is your gentle permission slip: It’s okay to rest. It’s okay to pause. It’s okay to just be.

Try This: 🧘🏼‍♀️Simple Energy Balancing Practice

Take five minutes to sit or lay somewhere cozy with no phone, no to-do list, no expectations. Close your eyes and simply breathe. Inhale deeply through your nose, feeling the rise of your belly. Exhale slowly through your mouth, releasing any tension.

As you breathe, silently ask yourself:
What season am I in right now?
What do I need most, action or rest?

Now listen. Just breathe and listen.

After five minutes grab your journal and write down what came up for you.

New Year Energy & Brahmacharya Hello Dear Reader, Happy 2026!🎆 As we begin a new year, I want to offer a different perspective, a yogic perspective that completely changed how I relate to New Year's resolutions. For a long time, I treated this month as a time to overhaul my life. New habits, big goals, fresh starts. Yet year after year, that approach left me feeling exhausted, stressed and like I had somehow failed before the year really began. What I understand now is this: the issue was...

Hi Reader, Happy New Year to you! 🩶 If you’re feeling a little off today, you’re not alone. The holidays tend to leave us with too much sugar, maybe more alcohol than usual, lots of socializing, late nights and sleep schedules that are all over the place. By the time January rolls around, it can feel tempting to overhaul everything. New habits, new routines, new rules. But here’s the truth:We’re still in the thick of winter. Nature isn’t rushing. It’s resting, conserving energy and slowly...

❄️Winter Energy❄️ Hello Dear Reader, We are officially in winter (as of December 21st), the one season where nature visibly slows everything down. Trees stop producing. Plants direct their energy back into their roots. Animals rest more. Nothing is trying to create, grow, or expand right now. And yet, we live in a world that tells us the new year is the time to reinvent ourselves. We’re actively encouraged to take on new habits and fill our calendars with self improvement activities. Our...
